Overview

SlopDetector ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our AI slop detection service at slopdetector.org.

TL;DR: We collect minimal data, don't sell your information, and respect your privacy. Text you paste into the detector never leaves your browser. We do serve ads and run analytics — section 4 has the opt-outs.

1Information We Collect

Content You Submit

Text you paste into the slop detector is analysed entirely in your own browser. It is never sent to us, never stored, and never used for training. If you instead check a URL, we fetch that public page on your behalf in order to extract its text; neither the address nor the page content is stored afterwards.

Feedback and Sign-up Forms

If you send feedback or ask to be notified about a feature, we store what you submit — your message, your email address if you provide one, the page you submitted it from, and your browser's user-agent string. This is kept in a hosted database (Neon) so we can read and reply to it. We do not sell it, rent it, or send marketing to it. To have yours deleted, email hello@slopdetector.org.

Automatically Collected Data

We may collect standard web analytics data such as:

Page views and navigation patterns
Browser type and device information
Approximate geographic location (country/region)
Referral sources

2How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Provide the AI slop detection service
Improve and optimize our service
Understand how users interact with our site
Generate aggregate, anonymized statistics

3Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share data with third-party service providers who help us operate our service (such as hosting providers and analytics services). These providers are bound by confidentiality agreements and are prohibited from using your data for any purpose other than providing services to us.

4Cookies, Analytics and Advertising

We may use cookies and similar technologies for essential site functionality and analytics. You can control cookie preferences through your browser settings.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic patterns — which pages are visited, from which countries, and on which devices. This never includes the text you check with the detector, because that text is never sent to us in the first place.

To stop Google Analytics collecting anything from you at all, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Third-party advertising

This site is supported by advertising. Third-party ad vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and/or other sites on the Internet.
Google and its partners may set the DoubleClick DART cookie in your browser when you visit this site.
You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info (US) or youronlinechoices.com (Europe).
Third-party vendors set their own cookies under their own privacy policies; we do not control them and we never pass them the content you analyse.
We do not operate a consent banner. Ads and analytics load for everyone, and the opt-out links above are the controls we can actually offer you — together with your browser's own cookie settings, which can block these cookies outright.

5Data Retention

Text analysed by the detector is never stored — in paste mode it never leaves your browser at all. Analytics data may be retained in aggregate form for service improvement purposes.

Feedback and sign-up submissions are the exception: those are stored until you ask us to delete them, because they are how we reply to you and how the scoring dictionary gets corrected. Email hello@slopdetector.org to have yours removed.

6Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including:

Right to access your data
Right to request deletion
Right to opt-out of tracking
Right to data portability

If you are in the UK or the EEA (UK GDPR / GDPR)

You have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or port your personal data, and to object to processing. The only personal data we hold is what you typed into a feedback or sign-up form; detector text never reaches us. Our lawful basis for holding it is legitimate interest in replying to you and correcting the scoring dictionary. Email hello@slopdetector.org and we will action it; you also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

If you are in California (CCPA/CPRA)

You have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share your personal information — there is nothing to opt out of, and we do not discriminate against anyone who exercises these rights. Advertising cookies set by Google are controlled through the opt-out links in section 4. For anything else, email hello@slopdetector.org.

7Children's Privacy

SlopDetector is intended for a general adult audience. Some of what we publish is written about content aimed at children — guides for parents on spotting AI slop in kids' feeds — but it is written for the adults reading it.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We have no accounts and no sign-in, so the only way to send us personal data is to type it into a feedback form. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information, email hello@slopdetector.org and we will delete it.

8Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.

9Browser Extension

The SlopDetector browser extension processes all text entirely on your device, inside your browser. It works differently from the website:

No data is collected. The extension does not collect, store, or transmit any text you analyze, nor any personal or browsing information.
No servers involved. Analysis runs locally using a built-in dictionary and scoring engine. Your text is never sent to slopdetector.org or any third party.
No tracking, no accounts. The extension uses no cookies, analytics, or tracking, and requires no sign-up.
Minimal permissions. It only reads the text you have selected, and only at the moment you click its icon or use its right-click menu. It never reads pages in the background or accesses your browsing history.

You can remove the extension at any time from your browser's extensions page; no data is left behind because none is ever stored.
